Grandad mike was someone who you could go to, spend time with, talk about anything, from robotics, to calligraphy; from languages to photography. He did everything, and gave everything. He made everyone feel so special in every way. Even me as his step grandchild, he always said that it didn’t matter that I wasn’t related by blood, I was his grandchild no matter what. I never took it to consideration how much every small gift was worth and how much thoughtfulness went into it. Every little thing, was done out of love, and the shear kindness of his heart. He was an inspirational, strong and amazing man and I will cherish every blessed moment that I had with him. I remember the last proper convocation I had with him was when he was staying with us, and I spent a while talking about the direction of the world, languages, and music. He told me “being able to speak a language is one of the biggest gift you could have”, I told him that I never have really had the nack for languages In which he stopped me and said “well that’s rubbish, anyone can speak a language, you need to put your mind to it”. He always impressed me with his languages! His talent for calligraphy that he always loved to teach me, and which I hope to try and attempt again! And the way he always offered to help with my homework when I was younger and talk through my maths with me though GCSEs, I don’t know how he had the patience! I will always remember Grandad mike as being the person who always went the extra mile to make people feel appreciated and make them smile. If grandad mike is not an angel then I don’t think they exist. Issy xx
