From Peter Stafford, younger brother

Created by Hannah 4 years ago

We spent five years of the War on The Gower in South Wales. We all had strong Welsh Accents. We used to come to Manchester from Swansea with the guard at Crewe instructed to make sure we got onto the Manchester train for our Gran to meet us at Central Station.

Our Dad (Ted) was very keen on walking, and I suspect, to tire out young children. Holidays were camping or youth hostels, or later pea picking in Lancashire (Ormskirk).

The three boys went to De la Salle College Salford and the girls to Notre Dame.

Mike was keen on the Scouts and went camping in Belgium. Mountains were always an attraction to us and we all managed to survive rock climbing with very basic equipment. Deo Gratias!!!

Mike played Rugby at school and for various clubs in the Manchester area, Manchester University, Wilmslow and Old Bedians. Later at Loughborough, Eshire and Trojans Southampton.
Mike played for a team representing Brazil when he worked as an engineer in Sao Paolo. He enjoyed squash and kept pretty fit.

We had many enjoyable walking holidays over the years in France, Spain, Wales and Ireland. ( staying in hostels, refuges and seedy hotels.)

i will miss our chats on the phone about everything that was happening in the world, Andrew Rawnsley in the Sunday Observer and books that were worth reading.

I will miss him. Peter
